Some Dallas Residents Getting To Work For Just $3
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
The rising cost of gasoline is fueling an increase in public transit use.
Thousands are now filling the DART Light Rail train cars instead of filling up their tanks.
"I know that if I was to fill up my tank, I'd have to do it once a week going back and forth. If you think about it that way, I'm saving a couple hundred dollars a month," said Jennifer Burns, a light rail commuter.
DART now estimates 65,000 people are hopping onto these trains everyday. Since last year, there has been a nine-percent increase in ridership on the trains.
"Gas prices are way too high, so both my boyfriend and I take the train," said Krystle Wallace, light rail commuter. "We don't drive at all."
The morning commute gridlock now can be found on the train. But $3 a ride goes further than $3 a gallon.
