Learn How To Re-Style Your Home With What You Have
FRISCO (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
You don't need new furniture, pricey plants, or an expensive decorator to give your home a new look. A North Texas designer will take things you already have, re-style your home, and do it for just a couple of hundred dollars.
Terina Peabody has lived in her Frisco home for about 15 years. Over time she's accumulated quite the collection of home decor. "There are items that I've not been able to use but I am looking to use them in a different way."
Peabody wants a new look, but doesn't want to buy new furniture or spend a lot of money on a decorator. "I have a couple of areas in mind one being the fireplace it's kind of dull to me. So I'm looking to liven it up a bit," she explained.
Peabody also wants to re-style an old entertainment center that she no longer uses. "I don't want to get rid of that piece of furniture," she said. "I want to be able to use it because it's a beautiful piece of furniture."
It's not just the inside of her house that he wants to change, Peabody also wants a new look for the family's outdoor patio. "I actually have a tropical painting mural on the side of the house and I want to incorporate that to make it look a little more tropical outside."
To help Peabody with her lack of 'decorator vision', in comes Lisa Wright of Wright Botanicals.
Wright explains that, "Re-styling is a fairly new term in the design industry."
To start the process Wright will go to a clients home, find things that have been stored away or kept in the same place for years and help create a new stylish look, using old items. "There may be something you've used in your dining room for 20 years and never thought to put it over your fireplace."
It didn't take long for Wright to come up with some fresh ideas for Peabody's home. "We're going to take a fabulous tapestry that she had and maybe use it over her fireplace. We are going to repurpose the TV armoire and we're going to make it a wine rack," Wright said of the planned changes.
On the patio, Wright is going to hang some old Christmas lights - that have been in storage, rearrange the furniture that's already there, and buy about $200 worth of new plants from the local garden center. "Once we start getting into the cool weather we can bring those in and use them as houseplants," she explained.
Wright also spent about four hours transforming the fireplace into a calming centerpiece. "When I sit down now and watch TV I have different things to look at," Peabody said impressed with the changes.
After Wright turned the entertainment center into a wine rack, Peabody said "It fit perfectly; she put some low lighting in there, with some grapes and made it a wine focal point."
The entire project had Peabody thrilled. "I was completely amazed. I mean I was just blown away when I walked in the door," she said. "It was definitely worth it. I could not have done what she did."
Lisa Wright charges $50 for her initial consultation and $45 for every hour after that. Terina Peabody's total bill, including the new plants, was $430.
