Make Your Own Bio-Diesel

CBS News Interactive: Oil And Gas Use

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (CBS 11 News) ― Louisiana State University professors in Baton Rouge explained to a packed house how they can make homemade diesel.

Scientists say they've almost perfected a safe way to make biodiesel at home or on the farm. The cost is about a dollar per gallon.

"I'm going to go out, look around, see what kind of equipment I'm going to need, and I'll probably start making it," said business owner Broussard.

"It's safe as long as they follow direction on how to do it. It's when they start taking shortcuts, they don't wear gloves, don't wear eye protection – we are dealing with toxic chemicals and dangerous chemicals," said LSU professor Dr. Bill Carney.
