More People Becoming Unintentional Entrepreneurs

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Many North Texans who were fired or laid off are still shut out of the job market. After finding out just how difficult it was to get back in, some have reinvented themselves and their careers.
Cindy Evans was laid off five months ago. The 51-year-old was an accounts manager for a construction company.
"At first it was like, 'What am I going to do?' I've been doing it for 18 years and the jobs just aren't there," she said.
Then she decided to go into business for herself. She is the face behind Cindy Sue's catering. "I cook from scratch everything," she said. "It's like a passion I have. It's therapy."
Evans is now among dozens in North Texas marketing themselves online on sites like CraigsList.org.
Brandon Weddle was in the construction business before he too was laid off. Now he builds decks and fences.
"I couldn't find any other work so I started out on my own," he said. "I couldn't trust the corporate world with them downsizing and laying off just about everyone I know."
Weddle and Evans say they were forced into this situation. They've dubbed themselves unintentional entrepreneurs.
"I have to say for once in my life I get to do what I want to do, and there is nobody telling me what to do anymore," said Evans.
